Midnight Black Birdeater Tarantula (Pamphobeteus sp. 'Tigris') - 1.25-1.5" (Sling)

A sling that grows like it has somewhere to be. Pamphobeteus sp. 'Tigris' is one of the Andean-foothill birdeaters, a group that turns small slings into heavy-bodied giants faster than almost anything else in the hobby. Adults in this genus reach roughly 7.5 to 9 inches across, and mature males bloom into a brilliant iridescent purple before their final molt. This one arrived at 1.25 to 1.5 inches, past the fragile stage and feeding hard. Spice Level 3: Intermediate. Bold but skittish rather than defensive, and noticeably more moisture-dependent than the lowland giants, so it wants deep moist-leaning substrate and real cross ventilation rather than a sealed box.
