It is a soft powder-blue and tan baboon spider, smaller than most, and it pulls off a trick no other tarantula reliably manages. This one is genuinely communal. Raised together as siblings, balfouris cohabit in peace, share a dense tangle of webwork, and, remarkably, the mother tends her slings in the burrow instead of treating them as snacks.
