A pinktoe that grows out of the pink and into deep violet. Avicularia purpurea is an arboreal pinktoe recorded from Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, and the name is a promise it keeps: grown animals carry a violet sheen across the whole spider that the pale toe tips only make more obvious. That is the species range rather than a claim about where these particular animals came from. These arrived at 0.5 to 0.75 inches, well before the colour comes in.
