It is an amblypygid: a flat, sideways-scuttling arachnid that looks like it crawled straight off a sci-fi set. Two raptorial pedipalps snap shut on prey while a pair of impossibly long, antenna-like whip legs feel out the dark ahead of it. Native to Florida and the Caribbean, it stays tiny, roughly 3/8 to 3/4 inch, and packs more alien menace per millimeter than almost anything you can keep.
