A true centipede that stays pocket-sized and never stops being venomous Hemiscolopendra marginata, the Green Bark Centipede, also called the Eastern Bark Centipede, is a native southeastern US predator that tops out under 3 inches and never outgrows a starter tank. Look close and you catch a subtle green to blue-gray sheen sliding across its plates as it flows under bark and leaf litter. It is one of the most manageable true centipedes in the hobby, small, hardy, and right at home on the same forest floor it comes from. Small does not mean safe. Like every centipede, this one is venomous, so it stays hands-off and tool-only, no exceptions. The easy husbandry and compact size make it a smart entry point into true centipedes, but this is still an advanced animal for an experienced invert keeper who respects the bite. The care guide has the full build and the boundaries before you commit.
