Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator) - 2-5" (Mixed Sizes WC)
The biggest scorpion in the room, and a total softie Pandinus imperator, the Emperor Scorpion, is the one everyone pictures: a glossy, jet-black, 6 to 8 inch tank with hands like a crab, built for the rainforest floors of West Africa. It is the largest scorpion commonly kept, and under UV light the whole thing lights up a ghostly blue-green. Every scorpion glows, but on something this size it is a showstopper. Females carry their pearl-white babies on their backs, and you can even keep these giants in small social groups. Famously one of the gentlest scorpions going: the big claws do the talking, and the sting is mild and rarely used. It is hardy, long-lived, and beginner-friendly, with one non-negotiable, keep it humid. This species is CITES-listed, so captive-bred provenance matters. The care guide has the full setup.
