Tiger stripes on a spider that starts smaller than your fingernail Davus pentaloris, the Guatemalan Tiger Rump, is a small, fast-growing Central American terrestrial that wears bold black-and-orange tiger striping splashed right across the abdomen. Even full grown it stays compact at around a four-inch legspan, so you get a huge personality in a tiny footprint. It is busy and web-happy, always fussing with silk, and it hits food with a feeding response way out of proportion to its size. Genuinely fun to watch. This one is skittish and quick: it would rather bolt than bite, and bites are rare, backed by mild New World venom plus urticating hairs it can kick when pushed. That combination makes it a forgiving, colorful pick for a first or second tarantula, no advanced experience required. If you are short on shelf space but not on enthusiasm, this is your spider. Read the full care guide before you set up so you nail the arid terrestrial layout and hands-off handling from day one.
